Tongg's

Tongg’s is a surf spot located in Oahu South Shore, Hawaii. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. It’s situated on a coral reef bottom and works best during low and medium tides. Tongg’s is known for its very consistent waves, making it a popular destination for surfers. The spot is suitable for all experience levels, but it’s important to check your skills before paddling out to ensure the conditions match your abilities. The wave length is typically less than 50m. Tongg’s can get crowded, especially on good days, so it’s crucial to respect the locals and follow proper surf etiquette. Nearby spots include Walls, Cliffs, Queens, Canoe’s, and Paradise. The spot is known for its consistent waves, often providing some form of rideable surf. However, when there’s significant swell, it’s advisable to check other nearby spots first as they might offer better conditions. Tongg’s can be a fun and quirky wave, occasionally surprising surfers with very good conditions, though this is rare (less than 10 days a year). The far inside left can be enjoyable on a longboard and is often less crowded. It’s important to note that Tongg’s cannot handle waves larger than 3-4 feet, becoming a potentially dangerous washout in bigger conditions. The takeoff area is quite small, which can lead to frequent drop-ins, especially by less experienced surfers. The right waves can be slightly hollow but very short, while the lefts are generally softer and longer, sometimes offering extended rides on smaller days with a longboard. Hazards at Tongg’s include urchins, rips/undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks, particularly from fall through early spring. The spot has become increasingly popular over the years, attracting a diverse crowd including graduates from nearby surf schools.
